The German Legend Gerd Muller tops the list with his 85 goals in a season while playing for Bayern Munich & German national side in 1972.
Overall 2012 is going to be a great year for the Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, not only he becomes the father of his first kid Thigao he is also in a touching distance of scoring most number of goals in a calendar year. He has won the FIFA Ballon Dior back to back third time in 2012. For breaking the record of Gerd Muller he has to score 10 more goals within 48 days, regarding his current form it has to be told scoring most number of goals in a single season is not far ahead of him.
During these 76 goals Messi scored six braces & a hat trick for Barcelona in la liga while he scored a hat trick for Aregentina national side also against the mighty arch rival Brazil in a FIFA friendly match.
Both the legends Pele & Muller guided their team to bag the World Cup crown in the same year or just after few years after scoring most number of goals in a single calendar year, Pele 1958, 1962 & 1970 while Gerd Muller 1974.
