Today’s
Kolkata derby is ended as an overall flop show from every perspective. The
match is ended in a goalless stalemate, whether the merit of the match is
concern it was never looked like an usual nerve wrenching battle, neither side
deserved victory today.
First
time in the history of Kolkata derby it noticed the least amount of crowd today
due to the heavy price of the tickets common people of Kolkata denied to come
in the stadium which is actually taken away the entire craze of the game.
Merely 25,000 crowd appeared today to witness this derby which generally gets
more less 1akh people during that match.
Victory
was desperately needed for both the sides from that match, it was necessary for
East Bengal to cement their place in the championship ahead while from Mohun Bagan’s
point of view victory was needed for avoiding the relegation. But due to some
unknown reason there was some lack of urge in between both the sides during
ninety minutes. Although Mohun Bagan was in a bit of positive mood in the first
half they are unfortunate to not register their name in the score sheet then.
Mohun
Bagan started more aggressively in 4-3-3 formation with Odafa, Tolgay &
Manish Bhargab in the upfront sometimes Odafa & Bhargab as a winger in both
flanks sometimes Tolgay & Bhargab as the same.
While
East Bengal also used the same combination from the beginning today Chiddi
& Baljit Sahni was leading the attacks in upfront while Penn Orji was in a
bit of behind in the schemer position.
Since
the beginning minutes it was very much visible that both the sides were
suffering from lack of pace, no such kind of penetration was shown during the
entire 90 minutes.
Meanwhile
Mohun Bagan got their first chance in the 21st minute of the match to register their name in
the score sheet when Tolgay failed to find the net after dribbling past two
opponent defenders.
In
the 34th minute Mariners had the best opportunity while they were
awarded a free kick in the right side of the box, Odafa himself took that
brilliantly, beat the East Bengal custodian Abhijit Mondal but was thwarted by
the left post.
In the
second half East Bengal looked muchmore positive & aggressive, they took
the entire control of the midfield courtesy Mehtab Mondal & Penn Orji but
failed to deliver the necessary thing.
In the
80th minute East Bengal had their best chance while Chiddi had
failed to convert a head from point
blank range following a ball from Isfaq Ahmed.
Mohun
Bagan had few more chances in the later stage of the game while a Tolgay’s shot
was cleared by the hand of Okpara, Mohun Bagan players started to appeal for a
penalty which was denied by referee.
Following that Quinton Jacobs failed to
find the net from inside the box following a ball from Odafa in the dying
moments of the game.
After that match East Bengal reaches in 40 points
after 20th round while Mohun
Bagan reaches in 6 points from 15 matches.
