Mohun Bagan vs East Bengal, Football ground became battlefield

Football ground became battlefield regarding a needless red card shown to Mohun Bagan’s key player by referee Vishnu Chouhan during the prestigious Mohun Bagan vs East Bengal derby yesterday afternoon at Salt Lake stadium, after the deadly incident of 16th August 1980 the football capital Kolkata was almost on its way to eyewitness another darkest day in football’s history.

Both the Kolkata giants faced off during their 10th round encounter of the I-League this session.  East Bengal appeared as an organizer of this match & regarding their current status in I-League they had a lots of things to gain from this vital clash while Mohun Bagan didn’t have anything more to lose apart from their prestige so why they became desperate to win that prestigious battle atleast.

East Bengal was the organizer of that match, complete uneven thing Salt Lake stadium eyewitnessed very first time that the entire gallery was decorated by the red & gold flags, the organizers didn’t leave the Mohun Bagan gallery also, the main agitation exactly started from there.

Regarding the referee Vishnu Chouhan Mohun Bagan officials have been showing annoyances since last two days they already told that they had a fear that this referee have not enough potential to run such kind of big derby, that is also true that very first time Vishnu Chouhan appeared with whistle on his mouth in Mohun Bagan vs East Bengal match.

Almost one lakh football crazy vociferous supporters attended to watch the match inside the stadium. East Bengal coach James Morgan had lots of weapon in his hand to overcome this barrier  easily while Karim Bencharifa was banking on 2 players only in the likes of Odafa Okolie & Syed Rahim Nabi.

Both the sides started in a see saw style, of course the green & maroon brigade occupied the first corner in the very early moments of the game but East Bengal also started to settle down as the time passes by.

East Bengal increased penetration after 25 minutes of the game, occupied few corners & then referee started to lose the control of the match, the disturbance started to grow up, referee frequently started to use yellow card for getting rid of the situation, within first 30 minutes he used 3 yellows & all those went against Mohun Bagan key players, it made the green & maroon supporters suspicious regarding his neutral stay during the match.

In between Harmonjeet Khabra put East Bengal ahead in the 43rd minute of the match scoring by an excellent header following a superb inswinger free-kick taken by Mehtab Hossain from just outside the top box. The question marks will also arise regarding the free-kick given to East Bengal from which they scored, was that a clear handball or not moreover why did the referee repeat East Bengal to take the same free-kick from the same place by rejecting the first one which was already taken & went outside the bar.

After that goal there is a normal collision in the sideline between Mohun Bagan’s Nirmal Chhetri & East Bengal’s Harmonjeet Khabra, due to that referee had given a free kick to East Bengal which should have been Mohun Bagan’s fore, guided the crowd to respond heavily, Odafa gently tried referee to approach against that decision but without hearing him Vishnu Chouhan directly showed the red card to Odafa  without having any sufficient reason. Mehtab Hossain & Saumik Dey of East Bengal criticized that incident by clapping randomly in front of Odafa, which is complete against the sporting spirit of the game. As well as it worked as a catalyst in the gallery. This time the spark became fury.

The Mohun Bagan supporters couldn’t consider this behavior of East Bengal players, violence erupted brutally from the number four gallery of the stadium, peoples started to pelt bricks, stones, crackers, fireworks as a missile randomly inside the stadium. Rahim Nabi got hit between eye & nose by one of them, started to bleed heavily, which forced him to lay down in the ground, the medical staffs appeared in a hurry, he was taken away to a private nusringhome by ambulance, doctors had to do five stitches to stop the bleeding, doctors quoted that there is a fracture in the bone between his eye & nose, he has to undergo a surgery which will take place at 12pm today.

So many policemen also got injured due to the move of defusing the agitated mob. A new experience Kolkata has tasted that policemen also started to pelt missiles towards the gallery from inside of the ground instead of taking rid of that situation due to which riot broken out  in the gallery between spectators & policemen. The policemen injured several innocent spectators injured by doing a heavy amount of lathicharge instead of finding out the culprits. Sixteen innocent supporters also got injured two of them are admitted in a private nursinghome with a very critical condition.

Regarding the volcanic atmosphere of the ground Mohun Bagan officials made a fantastic step by refused to play in the second half. Mohun Bagan team might have suspended for that reason but they have done a great job atleast by saving the lives so many football passionate peoples.

Mohun Bagan official refused the request of the honourable sports minister of West Bengal Mr. Madan Mitra even. In later Mohun Bagan coach Karim Bencharifa added his players were shivering inside the dressing room during the lemon interval & denied to play themselves regarding the condition of their colleague Rahim Nabi.

In later in a press meet the I-League CEO Sunando Dhar told that Mohun Bagan might be banned for this I-League & can be relegated to the second division I-League from next year.  Mohun Bagan vice chairman Srinjoy Basu reacted that Sunando Dhar is giving statements beyond his designation, the AIFF disciplinary committee is there to check that issue instead of Mr. Sunando Dhar & they have the right to take action only.

According to the FIFA’s guidebook the homeside is responsible for entire necessary security issues so it might be told that East Bengal also have a suspension for failed to maintain the appropriate law & order inside the ground as well.
