Manchester United clinched their 20th EPL title and 13th Barclays Premier League Title with four matches to spare, hammering Aston Villa by a clear 3-0 margin at Old Trafford lastnight. Robin van Persie completed his hat-trick within first half by scoring all three goals in the 2nd, 13th & 33rd minute of the game. With this victory Man U reaches to 84 points from 34 matches while the league runners Man City is standing on 68 points after playing the equal number of matches.
The Dutchman took just 81 seconds to sweep
home Ryan
Homeside
notched their second with just 13 minutes on the clock, and the goal was a
thing of beauty. With time and space inside his own half, Rooney looked up and forwarded
a long ball to Van Persie to run on to and hit a thunderous volley past a
motionless Brad Guzan from outside the area.
Twelve
minutes to remain in the first half he profited from more unselfishness from
the veteran Welshman to complete the second three-timer of his United career,
give the Red Devills supporters opportunity to cheer & celebrate.
The
arrival of Robin van Persie from Arsenal over the summer transfer window will
likely go down as the defining moment of the season for United. Van Persie
scored 21 goals in
his first 23 Premier League appearances for United and
became an instant hero at Old Trafford as a result of that success.
His combination with Wayne Rooney
allowed their strong attack to dominate the 2012-13 season and was fundamental
to their eventual title breakthrough.
United's
title triumph became manager Sir Alex Ferguson's 13th EPL trophy won at United
and his 28th trophy across all competitions for the Red Devils (not including
Community Shield victories)
The
win takes United even closer to breaking Chelsea's record in 2005 and 2006 of
29 league wins in a single season,
with the Red Devils currently on 27 wins. United,
who is also on their way to surpass the record of 95 points set by Chelsea in
2004-05 if they win their four remaining games, have 84 points with City, who
have a game in hand, on 68.
