German giant Bayern Munich stormed into the quarter stage of UEFA Champions League smashing the Swiss giant killer FC Basel in a 7-0 margin. Italian giant Inter Milan’s run in UEFA Champions League became over lastnight.
Latnight Bayern Munich host the Swiss side FC Basel in Allianz Arena, Munich in the second leg match of UEFA Champions League round of sixteen while they have lost their first round away match at St. Jacobs Park, Basel in a 0-1 margin. They had to overturn that 1 goal deficit in front of their homecrowd for reaching the next stage of the tournament, they did it comprehensively with their trademark. They hammered the visitors with a 7 goal margin, alongwith a hat-trick Mario Gomez scored four goals in 44th, 50th, 61th & 67th minute of the match the Dutch international Arjen Roben Opened the account in 11th minute & scored the final goal also in the 82nd minute, Thomas Muller scored the rest in 42nd minute, that is the record knockout win for the hosts in the Champions league history. Once it was looked like the Basel coach Heiko Vogel was counting seconds & just waiting for the finish of the match. The French international Frank Riberry was awesome for the hosts, he was leading in the midfield while Roben & Gomez were leading in the upfront, visitors didn’t have any answer for that combination. Bayern Munich will face Olmpic Marseille in the quarter.
Meanwhile in another match of UEFA Champions League the Azzzuri giant Inter Milan host the French side Marseiile at San Siro Stadium in Milan, they also had a one goal deficit in their away match, they needed to overturn that deficit, hosts won the match in 2-1 margin, but one way goal provided the berth for the visitors to the next round. Diego Milito gave the lead to the hosts in 75th minute, on behalf of the visitors substitute Barndaos equalized in the 92nd minute of the match, that goal made the visitors through for the next stage, the host took the lead in 96th minute again by Piazzini. In quarter final Marseille have to face the German giant Bayern Munich.
There are two big matches of UEFA Champions League round of sixteen second leg tonight. The only existent British contender Chelsea will host the Italian side Napoli in Stamford Bridge, London while the Spanish giant Real Madrid will host the Russian side CSK Moscow in Santiago Bernbau, Madrid. In first Leg Real Madrid shared the point with the hosts in their away match while in their away match the British side was clean swiped by the Italian side Napoli. Real Madrid just need a win only in front of their hoemcrowd for reaching the next stage while Chelsea have to overturn the 1-3 deficit for reaching in the quarter stage.
In IFA Shield semifinal today the Brazilian side Botfogo was beaten by the Kolkata giant Killer Prayag United in Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata, it made the Kolkata side through to the final of the tournament. Apart from scoring the goal the Brazilian side dominated the entire match heavily, due to the goalkeeper of Prayag United Abhijeet Mondal the visitor’s couldn’t net the ball ever, Mondal played braveheartedly like the great China Wall, singlehandedly defended all the attacks of the Brazilians. Kevin Vincent scored the decider for the Kolkata side just 4 minutes to spare in the second half of the extra time, Mondal selected for the Man of the Match award. Now Prayag will face another Kolkata Giant East Bengal in the final on Sunday.
